Heath Ledger's now iconic performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight earned him a posthumous Oscar win. I've always loved his performance - but one thing that always fascinated me too was the cultural impact of his role. We see many copycats, art tributes, costumes and even criminal acts committed in reverence to this version of The Joker. Christopher Nolan was inspired by Francis Bacon's art when creating his vision for The Joker. Bacon's abstract messy and disturbing style was a great template for the revolting face of Ledger's look. Here, this illustration is an expressive exploration of his cultural influence.
