"Phillies" - Mike Harrison

Philadelphia Magazine approached me to illustrate the Phillies Short-stop, Jimmy Rollins, for an upcoming article in their magazine. They were researching illustrators for a portrait they needed of him and really liked my style. They then saw that I had already done an illustration on him for a previous project, Nike Kids.

They were a big fan of the work I did for Nike and House of Hoops so wanted something in a similar style. What was important was the inclusion of the stadium and skyline, as he means a lot to Philadelphia. In order for it not to be a complete re-hash of the House of Hoops style we chose to use the colours from the kit within the illustration, and I used a completely different set of watercolour textures and paint effects.

We were both very happy how it turned out, so if you live in Philadelphia look out for it in an upcoming issue of the magazine!
